Kinetic Refuge (2024) 66" x 72" modular triptych, oil paint on canvas
The first piece, “Sociometry,” explores the ways in which the human body becomes more joyful during experiences of social interaction. The bright colors and overlapping style aid to show the joining of bodies, as we are positively impacted by meaningful experiences in the presence of others. The second, “Sanguine,” utilizes warmer colors and an impasto technique, showing how the materiality of paint can convey the strength our bodies are capable of, mentally and physically. The third, “Surrender,” explores the overwhelming feeling of despair and how it inspires a disconnect from the body. This is communicated through a painting style that uses many built-up, thinner layers of paint to show transparency in each depicted figure.
